Overview

Tamang Heritage Trekking is a recently opened route in the popular Langtang region. This newly trekking destination route for Tamang Heritage trekking provides you glimpses of the Himalayan behavior and society of the people living here. The trekking route is located at the north of Kathmandu and is good for those voyagers who want to experience the traditional and untouched legacy, custom and standard of living of indigenous - Tamang people and Buddhists (Keyrong) communities.

The main objectives of this trek are to get the firsthand experience of the culture and traditions of Buddhists people who migrated from Tibet centuries ago. They altered their ethnicity to Tamang because earlier Tibetan citizens were not allowed to settle here.

Along with culture and traditions, you also get the picturesque views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung (7245 meters), Keyrong, Sanjen Himal ranges including many other mountains. Other highlights of this trek are viewing the beautiful lake - Parvatikunda & local monastery named as Dukchu Gomba - the sanctified site selected by the Guru Rimpochee, and Chukla Kang gompa. We also stop over to the cheese factory and taste the cheese made by the locals.

The trekking for Tamang Heritage route starts from Syabrubesi and passes through the Gatlang village - the traditional village of Tamang set on the hillside on the terraced meadows. We also pass through Tatopani (a natural hot spring) and rest here for a while. We then descend down from the top to Thuman and Briddim (Tamang villages - where the people are very cordial and welcome guest). We will also be heading to the Kyanjin Gompa - the oldest monastery surrounded by the colorful prayer flags with Buddhist architecture. We can also spot some glaciers in this area. The trail goes over the tranquil villages with rhododendron flowers and terraced fields. Houses are typically built in the local architectural styles.

Tamang Heritage Trek is perfect in the month of March-May and from September-December. Ganesh Himal Hiking Team (GHHT) provides you this beautiful package of cultural trekking in this beautiful Langtang region to experience something new such as the rituals of Tamang Buddhists culture and much more. For further details about this Tamang Heritage Tour/Trek, simply email or contact us.
