Overview

Nepal is a multicultural and multiethnic country with different spoken languages and also called the city of temples. It is occupied by different temples, monasteries, and palaces of which some are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This extended tour to the Kathmandu valley tour is specially designed for those travelers to get a deeper knowledge and to understand its heritage and various historical sites. You get to explore in depth the Nepalese culture and their traditions.

Our 7 days tour begins by exploring some heritage sites of Kathmandu Valley and further tour around cities like Patan and Bhaktapur. We will also be heading to the hill town; an eminent spot to view the Himalayas, discover ancient Hindu temples – like Changu Narayan temple, tour at Dakshinkali, Chobhar, the Budhanilkantha temple and to Shivapuri. These sites are prominent Hindu pilgrimage where you get the copious knowledge of the Hindu culture and their religious practices. This tour is perfect for those travelers wanting to visit the different pilgrimage sites of the Kathmandu.

As this extended tour begins from the capital city Kathmandu where we will be exploring the well constructed four main UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kathmandu - Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Pashupatinath Temple (prime temple of Lord Shiva located at the bank of Bagmati River), the Swambhunath temple (also known as monkey temple), and Boudhanath Stupa (one of the largest Stupa in south Asia).

Next day early morning, we will set out for mountain flight to get the aerial sight of the almighty Everest, Kanchenjunga and numerous Himalayan peaks along with the Tibetan plateau for about an hour.  We will then be sightseeing Patan, Bungamati, and Khokana. The following day we will be sightseeing Thimi, Bhaktapur, Changu Narayan, and Nagarkot. Next day we travel to Dakshinkali, Chobhar, Pharping and Kirtipur and the subsequent day we end our trip touring at Budhanilkantha and Shivapuri.

This extended tour can best rejoice in spring (March-May) and autumn (September–December) as it is the ideal time for touring to this beautiful city. Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon you arrival to Kathmandu our GHHTeam representative will greet you and take you to the hotel. Reaching at the hotel you can be relaxed and freshen up and in the evening the Company will be hosting a welcome dinner in the top rate restaurants which serve you the authentic Nepali cuisine which serves you the typical Nepali cuisine.

Day 2
Sightseeing in Kathmandu: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath and Bauddhanath

On the second day after the breakfast we will be sightseeing by touring the Kathmandu city by visiting some of the UNESCO world heritage sites which are Kathmandu Durbar Square- ancient palace surrounding with the ancient temples. After that we will be visiting the Swambhunath temple also known as monkey temple. Next we will be exploring the Pashupatinath temple one of the sacred Hindu temple and this site is also the cremation site of Hindus after that we will be visiting the Boudhanath stupa which is the largest stupa in south Asia .

Day 3
Day 03: Sightseeing Tour of Patan, Khokana and Bungamat

Today we will be exploring Patan, Khokana and Bungmati. Patan is the ancient city which is famous for fine arts and crafts and here we will be exploring the Patan Durbar square and around this square you will be visiting ancient temples. Next will be Khokana a small village which is well-known for the making the Mustard seed oil and this site is also listed in the UNESCO heritage sites. Next will be Bungmati this is the ancient small village which is untouched by the modernization. We will spend our night in Kathmandu.

Day 4
Sightseeing: Thimi, Bhaktapur, Changu Narayan and Nagarko

Today we will be touring Thimi, Bhaktapur, Changu Narayan and Nagarkot. Today we take a drive to Thimi which is 10 kilometer far from Kathmandu and this town is known for wooden mask, handicrafts products, handmade clothes etc. the town is also famous for typical sweets and the beaten rice. After that we will be exploring the ancient city named Bhaktapur by visiting main landmarks of Bhaktapur. Next we will visit the ancient temple which is built in the Pagaodas style. After that we take a scenic drive to Nagarkot which is famous site for viewing sunrise and sunset view including with the Himalayas.

Day 5
Tour Dakshinkali, Chobhar, Pharping and Kirtipur

After breakfast we will be heading to the southern part of Kathmandu and here we will be visiting the sacred temple named Dakshinkali.  In this temple there will be lots of Hindu people crowded in this temple for worship their Hindu goddesses. Chobhar is famous for the Chobhar valley over which all the water of the gorge drains and too it is the massive network of natural crag caves. After that we will head to Pharping having numerous Buddhist and Hindu shrines, temples and monasteries.  Next will be Kirtipur is a historic- town located at the top of valley.  The ancient city has numerous remarkable sights, monuments, temples, and old houses etc. all this sites are pleasant to perceive. We will spend our night in Kirtipur.

Day 6
Sightseeing Budhanilkantha and Shivapuri

Today after the breakfast we will head to the northern side of Kathmandu to Budhanilkantha a huge statue of Hindu God Vishnu lying on the couch of snake it is situated at the base of Shivapuri Hill. Budhanilkantha is a main pilgrimage sites of Hindus. After that we take a drive through dusty road and head towards the Shivapuri National Park. Inside the park there is small Buddhists monastery. After exploring Shivapuri region we will drive to Kathmandu valley.

Final departure

Today your Kathmandu valley tour comes to an end. Our representative of the Accent Himalaya will be dropping you at the airport three hours earlier than your flight schedule.

FAQ's and Notes

When to book this Trip ?

The flawless seasons for touring/trekking is in spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). One can travel in winter if you are well adapted to cold. We strongly recommend you not to trek on monsoon in June, July, and August because of heavy rains & extremely blazing heat in the afternoon.

How kind of food is served during the trek ?

We serve food rich in proteins, carbohydrates and highly nutritious hygienic nourishing food - vital while trekking.

During the trek - all the meals i.e. breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided inclusive in our package. The trek leader will be taking you to the clean hotels/restaurants for lunch on the way to your destination. In cities, either breakfast or dinner is included.

Vegan foods are also availabale.

How safe is stream water ?

Stream water is completely safe but we suggest you to carry water purification pills (chlorine tablets) or water filters to purify the water. If you prefer to drink packaged bottled mineral water, you will easily get in shops or tea houses on your own expense.

How about my luggage ?

Our porters will carry your major luggage while you carry a backpack with items very handy while trekking such as water bottle, towel, tissue or toilet paper, camera or any other stuff which you feel is necessary.

Gears and clothes not necessary can be left in the hotel safe deposit box properly locked without any extra charge. Domestic airlines of Nepal does not allow more than 15 kilograms including your hand baggage. If your baggage exceeds more than 15 kg, an extra charge can cover that up.

The porter will be carrying up to 12 kg luggage of each trekker.

What is the group Size or crew members ?

We Ganesh Himal Hiking team arrange most of the treks with a minimum of 2 clients to a maximum of 8 in a group. The larger group we will be divided accordingly.

What about guides ?

We provide honest, well experienced first aid certified, altitude sickness trained trekking guides who will be handling all your issues on the trip. All our staffs are very cordial and sincere. While trekking in a bigger group i.e. more than 6 people - an additional guide will be accompanied and the group also can be split according to the number of people in the group.

Is there any personal expenses on the Trek ?

Well, not that much but depends upon how you manage your expenses. Our package includes the cost of accommodation and meals during your trek as mentioned in the itinerary. Besides that, you are liable to pay for additional meals, table drinks, snacks, hot showers (accessible in some places), alcoholic drinks, meals (around US $ 5-7), extra accommodation in Kathmandu, tips for driver, guide and porters, etc.

Tips to the guides, porter or any other members is not mandatory but feel free to tip them if you are satisfied with their service.

How about trekking gears or other equipment ?

Trekking gears are readily available in the stores of major cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara at a very reasonable price. Down jacket & sleeping bags can also be hired with a minimal charge per day. Thus, you don’t have to buy it from your hometown.

But if already have it and have no issues bringing it, please feel free to bring it.

What would a usual day on a trek be like ?

Each and every day gives pleasant suprises and rewarding experience. Each day differs according to the itinerary or schedule, or the place you are trekking.

Normally, you are required to trek for 4-6 hours each day. We start our trek after breakfast and stop for the lunch. We trek for 3-4 hours after lunch to reach our destination. If we reach our destination in afternoon, you can spend rest of the hours relaxing, take shower or just wander around.

How about Airport Pickup and Drop Off ?

After booking, a representative of Ganesh Himal Hiking Team will pick you up from the airport on your scheduled landing time. You can spot GHHT member outside the exit terminal. If you have booked the hotel by yourself, please let us know in advance, so that we can drop you at your respective hotel.

We also pick and drop you from domestic airport. On your departure day, we will also see you off.

Can I customize the Itinerary ?

Our itinerary has been carefully designed by our operation manager which is very pragmatic & includes the high altitude acclimatizing. These days includes your arrival day, departure and sightseeing Kathmandu. It also has an extra day which allows flexibility to adjust the delay or cancellation of flight due to sudden changes in the Himalayan weather.

If you would like to extend more days or lessen some, we surely can do that as per your wish.

How do you deal with emergency situations ?

Our tour guide and trek leader will make sure that each and every one of you is well taken care of in emergency situations. If by chance anyone gets sick during the trek, we will take you to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. For serious conditions – we will use the rescue helicopter expenses being carried out by the insurance company. We suggest you get insured for up to 6000 meters.

Please go thoroughly what’s covered and not in the insurance policy.

Booking and Payment:

After confirming or booking the trip – all we need is the copy of the passport, insurance policy, and the international flight details (ticket). Then, a 20% advance deposit is required for any trip, trek or expedition which is not refundable - used for reservations of hotels and lodges according to the itinerary. The remaining balance is due when you arrive at Kathmandu and can be paid by any means convenient to you. We prefer payment via cash (to avoid any extra service charge) but bank transfer, credit cards, western union, and pay pal are also the accepted form of payments.

What if flight is delayed from ?

Only domestic mountain flight is only available from Kathmandu to Lukla and sometimes the flight might be delayed or canceled due to unforeseen adverse Himalaya weather condition.

This is the reason we have kept an extra day in the itinerary to cover up such situations. In case the flight is canceled for 2 or more days, we will charter a helicopter to make sure that you reach on the scheduled flight to your destination. The expense for this service will be carried out by the insurance company. The helicopter charter cost is in between the US $ 500 to $ 3500 depending upon the number of people in the flight.
