Overview

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking at an elevation of (3210m) in Annapurna Region is the short and easy trek ideal for every trekking enthusiast. Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is also known as Annapurna Sunrise Trekking or Annapurna Panorama Trekking positioned nearby Pokhara.

This place is rich in the concealed treasure of Nepalese culture and custom. The name of Ghore Pani is derived from two native words - Ghore means ‘horse’ and Pani as ‘water’. This habitation used to be a resting point for ancient merchants who found water in the place for their horses andPoon is the name of the hill close by. This expedition is very well recognized for those explorers to hike in the Himalayas having a short vacation (for a week). Also, Ghorepani is classic trekking destinations for all seasons. This trekking takes you over stunning forests with terraced fields.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek commences from Pokhara to Birethanti via Nayapul where will start walking getaway from Nayapul then heading towards numerous places such as Sudam, Tikhedunga, Ghorepani. Our main destination starts from the incredible sunrise with panoramic sights of the mountains surrounding Annapurna (8091 m), Dhaulagiri (8167 m), HimchuliMachhapuchhere(Fishtail) (6993 m), Manaslu (8157 m), Dolpo range and several other mountains sideways the world deepest Kali Gandaki Gorge. The views from Poon Hill to all these landscapes are pretty impressive.

Most of the societies are from Magar, Gurung, and Brahmin folks. Majority of the communities in this zone run lodges/tea households business for the travelers to deliver an excellent service of accommodation and meals.

A sight of snowcapped peaks whirling from grey to pink to excellent white is also just overwhelming with lovely lavish flora, rhododendron, oak, pine, and junipers forests. Even rare animals are spotted sometimes during your track. Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu (1338 m & 4390 feet)

Upon your arrival at the airport and completing the customs formalities -you will be received by our representative carrying a signboard of Ganesh Himal Hiking Team (or your name) outside the terminal. After welcome & greetings, they will drive you to the hotel. The Ganesh Himal Hiking Team will host a welcome dinner in a top rated Nepali restaurant serving you delectable Nepali cuisine - an introduction to the Nepali food culture.

Meals: Welcome Dinner.

Accommodation: A 3 Star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2
Day 02: Fly Kathmandu to Pokhara & Drive to Nayapul, then Trek to Tikhedhunga (1540 m & 5051 feet)

Today your Ghorepani Poon hill trek begins firstly by driving to Nayapul. We drive by passing through the flourishing village named Lumle. We will commence our trek from Nayapul trekking towards the large prosperous town of Birethanti located at the junction of Burundi and Modi Khola. We then follow the main trail that leads to bamboo forests and passes a huge cascading waterfall. Continuing trekking to the side of valley leads us to Tikhedhunga. Today we will be trekking approximately 4-5 hrs.

Day 3
Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2860 m & 9380 feet)

Today our trek will be quite challenging because we have to overcome 3300 stairs of stone. At first, we will traverse the river through a suspension bridge and then ascend via steep stone stairs towards Ulleri (a flourishing village at 2080 meters). The village is mostly inhabited by Magar ethnicity. After that, we will gradually trek from Ulleri and come across two stunning serene rivers. If you like watching different birds - you might get to spot varied birds of this region like dippers, kingfisher, forktails and many more. After that, we will take a short ascend to Nangethanti and here we have our lunch. After having our lunch - we will continue our trek towards Ghorepani at 2850 meters. From Ghorepani, one can catch the captivating view of Annapurna I at 8091 meters, Dhaulagiri I at 8167 meters, Tukuche peak, Nilgiri at 6940 meters, Tarke kang at 7193 meters and Hiunchuli at 6441 meters. Today we will be trekking for approximately 5-6 hours.

Day 4
Hiking to Poonhill (3210 m & 10531 feet, and trek to Tadapani (2630 m & 8626 feet)

Today early morning - we will hike to Poonhill and view the magnificent sunrise views from Poon hill station point. It is the most beautiful view where one gets to view several snow-capped peaks with a striking sunrise view. The mountain we will get to spot is ranges of Mount Annapurna at 8091 meter, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Huinchuli, Machapuchre, Lamjung Himal, Dhampus peak, Tukuche peak and many more. We will enjoy some time in this poon hill station taking outstanding pictures and retrace back to Ghorepani. After breakfast, we will continue our trek and head towards Tadopani via rhododendron forests. If you are traveling in spring, then on the trails, you will be observing rhododendron flowers blooming all over. We will be having our lunch at Banthanti and continue our trek through rhododendron forests. Before reaching Tadapani, we will ascend for half an hour. On the way, we will be getting a great view of south Annapurna, Machapuchre, and Huinchuli. Today we will be trekking approximately 6-7 hours.

Day 5
Tadapani to Ghandruk (1940 m & 6360 feet)

Today we will start our trek by descending steeply from Tadapani. After that, we will trek through lush rhododendron trees with rhododendron red and pink flowers blooming all over. After a few treks, we will be entering the village of Ghadruk mostly inhabited by the Gurung ethnicity. On the way, we will perceive Annapurna south, Huinchuli and Machapuchre (Fishtail). We will also be visiting Gurung museum located at Ghadruk and explore the culture and traditions of the Gurung civilization.  Today we will be walking for approximately 3-4 hours.

Day 6
Day 06: Trek to Nayapul, drive to Pokhara

Today we will be trekking from Ghadruk and head towards Nayapul and from here, we will dive back to Pokhara. We will be trekking downhill on the trail to Birethanti. We will be taking steps in the abundant staircase pave with stone and then reach the village with terraced fields. Until we reach Modi Khola, we will be descending down from Ghadruk. Finally, we arrive at Birthanti and we will further trek for half an hour to reach Nayapul. Reaching Nayapul, we take a drive to Pokhara. In the evening, we will relish the lakeside view of Pokhara. We will spend our night in a hotel. Today we will be trekking approximately 4-5 hours & a drive of 1 hour.

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch.

Accommodation:  A 3 Star hotel in Pokhara.

Day 7
Drive to Kathmandu

Today after having our breakfast - we will drive to Kathmandu and our representative will drop you at the hotel for you to freshen up. Next, you can visit some of the souvenir shops nearby and shop gifts for your loved ones. In the evening, Ganesh Himal Hiking Team will be hosting a farewell dinner in an excellent Nepali restaurant which serves you mouth-watering Nepali cuisine.

Day 8
Departure

Today your Ghorepani Poon Hill trip comes to end and we hope that you had a great time with us and look further for your next adventure with us. Our representative will be dropping you at the airport three hours earlier than your flight schedule.

FAQ's and Notes

When to book this Trip ?

The flawless seasons for touring/trekking is in spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). One can travel in winter if you are well adapted to cold. We strongly recommend you not to trek on monsoon in June, July, and August because of heavy rains & extremely blazing heat in the afternoon.

How kind of food is served during the trek ?

We serve food rich in proteins, carbohydrates and highly nutritious hygienic nourishing food - vital while trekking.

During the trek - all the meals i.e. breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided inclusive in our package. The trek leader will be taking you to the clean hotels/restaurants for lunch on the way to your destination. In cities, either breakfast or dinner is included.

Vegan foods are also availabale.

How safe is stream water ?

Stream water is completely safe but we suggest you to carry water purification pills (chlorine tablets) or water filters to purify the water. If you prefer to drink packaged bottled mineral water, you will easily get in shops or tea houses on your own expense.

How about my luggage ?

Our porters will carry your major luggage while you carry a backpack with items very handy while trekking such as water bottle, towel, tissue or toilet paper, camera or any other stuff which you feel is necessary.

Gears and clothes not necessary can be left in the hotel safe deposit box properly locked without any extra charge. Domestic airlines of Nepal does not allow more than 15 kilograms including your hand baggage. If your baggage exceeds more than 15 kg, an extra charge can cover that up.

The porter will be carrying up to 12 kg luggage of each trekker.

What is the group Size or crew members ?

We Ganesh Himal Hiking team arrange most of the treks with a minimum of 2 clients to a maximum of 8 in a group. The larger group we will be divided accordingly.

What about guides ?

We provide honest, well experienced first aid certified, altitude sickness trained trekking guides who will be handling all your issues on the trip. All our staffs are very cordial and sincere. While trekking in a bigger group i.e. more than 6 people - an additional guide will be accompanied and the group also can be split according to the number of people in the group.

Is there any personal expenses on the Trek ?

Well, not that much but depends upon how you manage your expenses. Our package includes the cost of accommodation and meals during your trek as mentioned in the itinerary. Besides that, you are liable to pay for additional meals, table drinks, snacks, hot showers (accessible in some places), alcoholic drinks, meals (around US $ 5-7), extra accommodation in Kathmandu, tips for driver, guide and porters, etc.

Tips to the guides, porter or any other members is not mandatory but feel free to tip them if you are satisfied with their service.

How about trekking gears or other equipment ?

Trekking gears are readily available in the stores of major cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara at a very reasonable price. Down jacket & sleeping bags can also be hired with a minimal charge per day. Thus, you don’t have to buy it from your hometown.

But if already have it and have no issues bringing it, please feel free to bring it.

What would a usual day on a trek be like ?

Each and every day gives pleasant suprises and rewarding experience. Each day differs according to the itinerary or schedule, or the place you are trekking.

Normally, you are required to trek for 4-6 hours each day. We start our trek after breakfast and stop for the lunch. We trek for 3-4 hours after lunch to reach our destination. If we reach our destination in afternoon, you can spend rest of the hours relaxing, take shower or just wander around.

How about Airport Pickup and Drop Off ?

After booking, a representative of Ganesh Himal Hiking Team will pick you up from the airport on your scheduled landing time. You can spot GHHT member outside the exit terminal. If you have booked the hotel by yourself, please let us know in advance, so that we can drop you at your respective hotel.

We also pick and drop you from domestic airport. On your departure day, we will also see you off.

Can I customize the Itinerary ?

Our itinerary has been carefully designed by our operation manager which is very pragmatic & includes the high altitude acclimatizing. These days includes your arrival day, departure and sightseeing Kathmandu. It also has an extra day which allows flexibility to adjust the delay or cancellation of flight due to sudden changes in the Himalayan weather.

If you would like to extend more days or lessen some, we surely can do that as per your wish.

How do you deal with emergency situations ?

Our tour guide and trek leader will make sure that each and every one of you is well taken care of in emergency situations. If by chance anyone gets sick during the trek, we will take you to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. For serious conditions – we will use the rescue helicopter expenses being carried out by the insurance company. We suggest you get insured for up to 6000 meters.

Please go thoroughly what’s covered and not in the insurance policy.

Booking and Payment:

After confirming or booking the trip – all we need is the copy of the passport, insurance policy, and the international flight details (ticket). Then, a 20% advance deposit is required for any trip, trek or expedition which is not refundable - used for reservations of hotels and lodges according to the itinerary. The remaining balance is due when you arrive at Kathmandu and can be paid by any means convenient to you. We prefer payment via cash (to avoid any extra service charge) but bank transfer, credit cards, western union, and pay pal are also the accepted form of payments.

What if flight is delayed from ?

Only domestic mountain flight is only available from Kathmandu to Lukla and sometimes the flight might be delayed or canceled due to unforeseen adverse Himalaya weather condition.

This is the reason we have kept an extra day in the itinerary to cover up such situations. In case the flight is canceled for 2 or more days, we will charter a helicopter to make sure that you reach on the scheduled flight to your destination. The expense for this service will be carried out by the insurance company. The helicopter charter cost is in between the US $ 500 to $ 3500 depending upon the number of people in the flight.

Accommodation in Himalayan Countries While Tour/Trek

Ganesh Himal Hiking Team (GHHT) arranges it’s best for comfortable and pleasant accommodation and also provides you nourished hygienic food.

We will be staying at the standard hotel (rating of 2 – 3 Star) in Kathmandu whereas, in the remote areas, we will be staying at a tea house or a local lodge. We can also arrange luxurious rooms from 4 – 5 Star hotels in the cities with an additional charge but the remote mountainous regions have no such facilities. Tea houses and local lodges in the remote region will have a usual bed with usual mattress and a pillow. Only a few of them have electricity but the rest rely on lanterns or candles lights.

Booking of the room is done prior to the starting of the trek. If in case we are not able to book the room in advance, we can book it upon reaching there as these areas have ample of lodges and tea houses. If for some reason, we aren’t able to book a lodge/teahouse - we can easily set a camp which will be the most adventurous part of the trek itself.
